2017 Môreson Cabernet Sauvignon
Vineyard notes
After many years of refinement, we are pleased to offer the newly refurbished Magia with 2013 being the first vintage bottled as 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Formerly a Bordeaux blend led by Cabernet Sauvignon to now be produced exclusively from a single vineyard block grown in Franschhoek. Magia will now only be produced in vintages that are able to create magnificent wines. After much debate, the 2014 vintage was not bottled for this reason. The Franschhoek vineyard is planted with clone CS 338 growing within a vine spacing of 3.50 x 1.75m or vine density of 2000 vines/ha. The vineyards were planted in 2000 and tend to grow vigorous if not controlled. Vineyard practices are focused on cropping yields to 6 tons/ha in two stages; lateral bunches pre – veraison and bunches uneven in colour post veraison. In the cellar, practices are minimal with focus on producing completely focused and concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon. The Franschhoek appellation has a beautiful manner in expressing very strong cassis, sometimes buchu notes on the final product. Maturation occurs in 100% new oak, 225L Bordeaux barrels with the final blend comprising a barrel selection. It is not uncommon (vintage dependent) for a small percentage of the subsequent vintage to be used as a freshening component. The
wine was removed from barrel and blended in November 2018 with no additional fining or pre – bottling filtration.

No Crushing, only destemming. No Cold soak. 15% bleed off of juice to concentrate must. Fermentation for minimum 14 days with pump over/punch down cycle taking place 6 times a day. No extended skin contact.

Tasting notes
Complex with hints of blackberries, cedar, spices and mint on the nose. Full-bodied and fruity, dark berries, vanilla and herbs, balanced and long finish.
