2020 Chateau Lauzade rosé
Vineyard notes
TERROIRS
The grapes hail from bush-pruned vines from east and west-facing vineyards, located in the commune of Luc-en-Provence in the valley north of the Maures hills. Deep clay soil with limestone scree.
FARMING
Sustainably farmed. The vineyards are worked gently with a tractor in the winter and spring. Over the winter, sheep graze on the flowery cover crop, lending essential nutrients and microbes to the soil. The vineyard team practices de-budding and a green harvest to reduce yields.
VINE AGE
30 year-old vine on average
AVERAGE YIELD
45 hectoliters per hectare
WINEMAKING
The grapes are mechanically harvested at night to preserve freshness, separated by varietal, and are then pressed gently - 40% as whole clusters and 60% de-stemmed. The free-run juice is racked into stainless steel tanks and left to cold macerate for two hours. The must is then vinified and undergoes a two-week alcoholic fermentation at 56°F. Aged on fine lies between November and January, with weekly batonnages (lees steering). Malolactic fermentation is avoided to preserve the minerality, tension and purity of the grapes. The different varietals are then fined, blended and left to settle for two to three months. A light filtration follows before bottling. The Sénéclauze family has hired the energetic Dijon native and Burgundian-trained Gérald Damidot to vinify this cuvée
ANNUAL PRODUCTION
~90,000 bottles or 7,500 cases
Tasting notes
There are roses, and then there are roses from Provence. This brilliant, salmon-hued stunner couldn't be a better textbook example! Brilliant and salmon-hued, it offers lovely aromatics of crushed red berries, guava and fragrant hints of Turkish delight! A fresh minerality and citrusy finish infuses a juicy and generous palate, making this an easy-to-love wine for all occasions.
